What's on the mug
- 1Lettering
MÉXICO in yellow-gold capitals, with an accent on the E, sits over a dark green circle at the centre of the front.
- 2Doll in a green skirt
A doll with long dark braids, a patterned green top and a layered green skirt stands at the left, with yellow flowers beside her and a swirl of orange ribbon below.
- 3Papel picado banner
A string of cut-paper flags in orange, yellow and green hangs across the upper front, each with a different punched pattern.
- 4Music notes
Three black musical notes float above the lettering, between the banner and the musicians.
- 5Mariachi players
Musicians in dark jackets and wide hats stand at the right of the front; one holds what looks like a guitar, though the mug doesn't label it.
- 6Plate of tacos
A pile of tortillas topped with green, red and orange garnishes sits under the lettering. They look like tacos, though the mug doesn't label them.
- 7Lime wedge
A slice of lime with a yellow-green rind sits at the lower left of the lettering.
- 8Agave plant
A spiky green plant with orange tips grows at the lower right, below the musicians. It looks like an agave.
- 9Sugar skull Side view
A white skull with a maroon outline, orange flower-shaped eye sockets and a pattern on the forehead hangs on a cord from a lollipop-like swirl at the upper left.
- 10Candles and photo frame Side view
A fat red candle and a taller green candle stand next to a small framed picture of a figure on green. Candles and photos appear together on Day of the Dead altars.
- 11Sweet bread Side view
A round golden-brown loaf with bone-shaped strips across the top sits below the marigolds. It looks like pan de muerto, though the mug doesn't label it.
- 12Marigolds Side view
Clusters of orange and yellow marigold flowers with dark green leaves fill the middle of the side, above the sweet bread.
- 13Piñata Back view
A star-shaped piñata with red, green and yellow stripes hangs from a loop at the top of the back, with paper streamers trailing from its points.
- 14Two wrestlers Back view
Two wrestlers in masks and colourful trunks and boots grapple in the centre of the back; one lifts the other overhead.
- 15Drink with lime Back view
A glass of orange liquid with a patterned rim sits next to a lime wedge at the lower centre of the back.
- 16Jaguar and bowl Back view
A spotted yellow-and-brown jaguar sits above a round dark red bowl holding a pale oval. The mug doesn't say what the dish is.
Together the three photos show most of the outside of the mug. The strip behind the handle is out of view, and the seller's photos do not show the base.
Collector notes
- The lettering on this mug reads MÉXICO with an accent. Starbucks lists Discovery mugs for Mexico, Ciudad de Mexico and New Mexico separately, and Mexico also has a Been There mug and an Icon mug, so match the series name and the place name in a listing's title.
- The inside of this mug is dark green in the photos. Its black Discovery Series box, labelled in English and in French, is in all three photos but is not part of the mug.
- The doll and the mariachi players are on the front, the sugar skull, candles and marigolds are on the side, and the piñata, wrestlers and jaguar are on the back, so a seller photo taken only from the front will show none of the back.
