How to Display and Store a Starbucks Mug Collection

Starbucks Discovery Series and Been There mugs are built to stack, so a shelf or cabinet that holds a few of them in a column is the simplest way to show a collection. Starbucks says it kept the Discovery mug's dimensions unchanged from the Been There mug because customers liked stacking them for display. The 14-ounce mugs also share one size, which makes planning a shelf easy.

Can I stack Starbucks Discovery and Been There mugs?

Yes. Starbucks says designers kept the dimensions of the Discovery Series mug unchanged from the Been There mug because customers liked how the ceramic mugs stack for displaying a collection. Our suggestion: put a thin felt or cloth round between mugs so the rims and printed art do not rub.

How big a shelf do I need for a Starbucks mug?

Disney Store lists its Starbucks Discovery Series mug as holding 14 ounces and measuring about 3.5 inches high and 6 inches wide including the handle. Measure one of your own mugs before you buy shelving, since mugs from other lines differ.

What are the main ways to display a mug collection?

Our suggestion: a wall shelf shows the place names best, an open bookcase or glass-door cabinet keeps dust off, a tiered riser makes two rows out of one shelf, and hooks or a mug tree hang mugs by the handle. Whichever you pick, turn each mug so its place name faces out; our photo pages show the front, side and back of many mugs so you can check which side carries the lettering.

How should I store mugs I am not displaying?

Our suggestion: keep the original boxes if you have them, stack mugs of one series together, and pack a soft layer between any that touch. Starbucks mugs sold at the Disney parks came in a box with a lid, so keep that box too if you want to resell.

How do I keep track of which mugs I have?

Our checklists let you tick the mugs you own and heart the ones you want. The choices stay in your own browser only, so nothing is uploaded.
