What's on the mug
- 1Pickle and fried slices
A curved teal shape covered in yellow dots arcs over the top left of the green circle, with round yellow discs striped in red and orange beside it. They read as a pickle and fried pickle chips, though the mug doesn't label them.
- 2Slice of pie
A wedge of pie or cake with a pale filling and dark specks sits at the top right, beside the handle.
- 3Waterfall
A waterfall spills over blue and teal rocks at the left, with round boulders and pale spray at its foot.
- 4Singing bird
A bird with a green body, magenta wing and yellow tail stands below the lettering, with small music notes above its head. The mug doesn't name the species, but the mockingbird has been Arkansas's state bird since 1929.[1]
- 5Yellow blossoms
A cluster of yellow flowers with dark red centres sits beside the bird and runs toward the handle.
- 6Lettering
ARKANSAS in yellow capitals over a dark green circle; the last two letters run off the circle onto the white body in orange.
- 7Yellow cat Back view
A yellow cat-like animal perches on a teal rock at the far left.
- 8Giant spoon Back view
A huge spoon tips over at the top left, pouring a dark liquid onto a yellow-and-teal rocky mound. The mug doesn't say what it is.
- 9Domed building Back view
A domed building with a columned centre and long side wings runs across the top, in the style of a state capitol.
- 10Arch bridge Back view
A long bridge with one tall arch carries tiny cars across the middle band.
- 11Yellow diamond Back view
A large yellow diamond with four-point sparkles hangs in the middle of the back. Arkansas has Crater of Diamonds State Park near Murfreesboro, where visitors may keep any gemstone they find; the mug doesn't mention it.[2]
- 12Steaming rock pool Back view
Steam curls up from a rock pool at the lower right. The mug doesn't name it, but Hot Springs was set aside as a federal reservation in 1832 and made a national park in 1921.[3]
- 13Figure at the edge Back view
A standing figure in a yellow patterned top and dark trousers is cut off by the curve at the right edge.
The front and back photos overlap little, and neither shows the strip hidden behind the handle.
Collector notes
- Arkansas also has a Been There Series mug, listed on our Been There checklist, so confirm the series name in the listing before you buy the Discovery design.
- The handle hides the right edge, so the blossoms and the pie continue out of view. Ask a seller for a photo of the back if you want to see the whole design.
