What's on the mug

  1. 1
    Football

A navy football with orange stripes and white laces floats above the lettering, trailing blue motion lines.

  2. 2
    Helmets

A navy football helmet with orange trim overlaps a lime-green one at the right, beside the handle.

  3. 3
    Skyline

A skyline of striped towers and orange-and-blue blocks fills the left-centre of the design.

  4. 4
    Cable-stayed bridge

A bridge with an orange pylon and lime-green cables runs along the bottom. It resembles the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava, which crosses the Trinity River in Dallas, opened in 2012 and has a 400-foot arch. The mug recolours it and doesn't name it.[1]

  5. 5
    Ferris wheel

A Ferris wheel sits behind the handle. Dallas's Texas Star, at Fair Park, is a Ferris wheel that runs during the State Fair of Texas and was the tallest in North America from 1985 to 2013. The mug doesn't name it.[2]

  6. 6
    Bowl of food

A bowl of red, green and orange food with a spoon lifted above it at the top left. Marketplace listings describe it as chili.[3]

  7. 7
    Figure in boots

At the left edge, a figure in a blue patterned dress and cowboy boots continues around toward the back of the mug.

  8. 8
    Lettering

DALLAS in light-blue capitals on a dark green circle.

  9. 9
    Framed landscape Side view

A framed picture of a winding blue river through green land with small buildings and trees hangs at the top of this side; a figure in cowboy boots points toward it.

  10. 10
    Dark blue bull Side view

A dark blue bull with orange horns and a green muzzle stands near the left edge of this side, above a bridge.

  11. 11
    Cowboy hat Side view

A green cowboy hat with a star-shaped medallion on its crown sits on a brick-orange block below the framed picture.

  12. 12
    Airplane Side view

A green airplane with orange engines climbs toward the left of this side.

  13. 13
    Layered cake Back view

A tall layered cake on a stand, topped with chocolate pieces, sits at the left of the back view.

  14. 14
Orange flower and palette Back view

An orange hibiscus-like flower sits above a blue paint palette and a brush near the handle on the back.

  15. 15
    STARBUCKS wordmark Back view

The vertical STARBUCKS wordmark runs down the back next to the handle.

  16. 16
    Airplane and bull Back view

A green airplane flies over the dark blue bull and the bridge, which continue across the back of the mug.

The three photos together cover most of the outside of the mug. The area directly behind the handle is partly hidden. Some listings mention a longhorn; the animal we can see is a dark blue bull with orange horns, so we describe it that way.

Collector notes

  • Dallas is also a Been There Series mug. An Amazon listing we found sells a 14 oz "Been There Series" Dallas mug, so match the series name in the listing to this Discovery design.
  • The Discovery listings we found put "2024" in the title, and many add "new in box" or "NIB". Those words are useful search terms.
  • The handle hides part of the right side. A seller photo taken from the front may not show the Ferris wheel or the helmets in full, so ask for a second angle.

Hidden Starbucks cup

Close-up of the hidden Starbucks cup on the Dallas Discovery Series mug

Starbucks says a to-go cup is hidden in every Discovery Series design. On the front of the mug, a white to-go cup with a green dot sits near the helmets. Where the hidden cup is on other mugs
